Creative Writing

Working in a library means that I am surrounded by books and I have been a keen writer for as long as I can remember! My writing includes poetry, short stories, radio dramas, screenplays and news articles. I am currently attempting to write my first novel and I am also studying an online writing fiction course with the Open University.

I am often starting ideas and creating paragraphs and setting challenges to keep my creative juices flowing, if I come across any good challenges to inspire creative writing then I will add them to this page.

Writing exercises...

'In no more than 500 words, write a paragraph describing the worst place that you can imagine to try and write, somewhere that kills all creativity. Describe how it affects your different senses. Then do the same for a place that you really love to write.'

'Switch on the TV or radio to a random station and use the first few phrases as a basis of a plot for a short story. Try and decide the characters and location based on what you hear and build a plot around that.'
